Mercure Burton Upon Trent Newton Park transformed by recent refurbishment

The grand, eighteenth century Mercure Burton Upon Trent Newton Park has undergone an extensive refurbishment transforming the 4* hotel.

The Italianate-style country manor retreat will unveil its redesign in November, with a special event to launch the new look Mercure Burton Upon Trent Newton Park. The renovation includes the transformation of the historic hotel’s public spaces as well as the redesign of the William Morris Suite, which caters specifically for people looking for a unique wedding or event venue.

Interior designer Helen Hooper of HH Interiors, who has previously worked with Jupiter Hotels on renovation projects across the UK, comments on the project: “The public areas have been refreshed to reflect the feeling of grandeur you would expect from a Grade 2 listed building of this kind. There was an exquisite listed wallpaper prevalent throughout the public area, which we enhanced by using fresh, warm paints to bring this to life and keep at the heart of the design. To add a contemporary feel to the hotel, we added a unique picture frame wallpaper in the Oak Room and large floral print curtains in the lounge.”

The William Morris Suite accommodates up to 160 wedding guests and overlooks eight acres of landscaped gardens, providing the perfect backdrop for a grand wedding or event. The Suite, which retains its original features of oak paneling, is dressed with palates of soft lilacs and gold. There are grand chandeliers, which enhance the historical details of the hotel, plus the original conservatory has also been refurbished and is now licensed to hold civil ceremonies.

Commenting on the refurbishment, hotel General Manager Moira Banks said: “We are delighted with this redesign and are very proud of the hotel’s heritage. The new look of the hotel helps restore our historical features, whist adding an individual edge to the property.”

Shane Harris, CEO Jupiter Hotels, added: “The investment demonstrates our continued commitment to the growth and transformation of our portfolio in the UK. It’s an exciting time for the midscale hotel market and with the right investment, hotels like Mercure Burton Upon Trent, Newton Park Hotel can be given a new lease of life. This is a very exciting time for the hotel and the team in Burton. It’s a fantastic hotel with a wonderful story, great history and huge potential.”

Mercure Burton Upon Trent Newton Park is located three miles from Burton-Upon-Trent and a short drive from the National Forest, it’s the perfect location for those looking for a weekend away or a business retreat.
