The Mercure Swansea Hotel has undergone an extensive refurbishment, revealing a locally inspired new look. The contemporary new design pays homage to Swansea’s industrial heritage whilst preserving the friendly and approachable service for which the hotel has always been highly commended.
The renovation will be unveiled on 7th September 2017 and includes a transformation of 55 bedrooms and the public spaces including the bar area.
Interior designer Helen Hooper of HH Interiors, who has previously worked with Jupiter Hotels on renovation projects across the UK, managed the project. Helen explained, “With Swansea, we wanted to create a sense of warmth and entertainment in a modern contemporary setting which marries and reflects the local contrast between city and countryside. We used a mixture of finishes, polished brass, faux marble and grey oak all creating levels of texture and we have positioned bespoke artwork throughout the hotel to tell the local story of Swansea and the surrounding area.”
Additional locally inspired design features, which acknowledge Swansea’s industrial heritage, include a range of materials such as ornamental copper gilded oyster shells, a quadriprych printed onto aluminium in the restaurant and vintage silver cutlery items stamped in the welsh language and hung in wooden frames in the public areas. Other key design features that reference the local scenery and culture include artwork of Welsh poet and writer Dylan Thomas, bespoke local imagery printed onto the headboards and framed model sheep in the lounge space.
Commenting on the refurbishment, hotel General Manager Ian Harding-Jones said: “We are delighted with the recent refurbishment of the hotel and feel that the new locally inspired design really captures the warm personality of Swansea whilst maintaining a contemporary feel. The property has been truly transformed and we are excited to welcome back locals and guests to the hotel.”
Shane Harris, CEO Jupiter Hotels, added: “The investment in this property demonstrates our continued commitment to the growth and transformation of our hotel portfolio in the UK. The renovation of the Mercure Swansea Hotel showcases what’s to come this year as we increase hotel development and elevate customer experience in the mid-scale sector”.
The Mercure Swansea also offers a Brasserie Restaurant overlooking the landscaped gardens, providing fresh, locally produced and seasonal ingredients. Guests can also enjoy a Welsh whisky by the fire in the stylish revamped hotel Bar. For those looking to relax and unwind during their stay, they can enjoy a swim in the heated indoor pool, take a dip in the sauna or use the exercise facilities at the Feel Good Health Club.
The hotel offers comfortable and practical meeting spaces for business guests with eight fully serviced meeting rooms, all equipped with complimentary high speed WiFi, audio-visual equipment and space for up to 180 delegates including free parking. For those looking to celebrate a special occasion, the beautiful lakeside gardens provide a stunning backdrop for a wedding party.
